Monogram Welcome Sign

Hello everyone!  I recently did a guest post for Hani from  Craftionary  I was so thrilled!! This is what I shared with her.  Now I want to share my Monogram Welcome Sign with you today.

For this project you will need:
  • Treated 2x2
  • 1x12 Pine Board
  • Scroll Saw
  • Pattern and Monogram Design
  • Transparancy/Overhead Projector Machine
  • 2-  3 and1/2 inch wood screws
  • White Spray Paint
  • 2  "S" Hooks
  • 4 Eye Hooks
  • Black Outdoor Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Black Paint Pen
First, measure and cut the treated 2x2 4 and 1/2 feet long.  Print the pattern or design of your choice on transparency paper.  Use the overhead projector to trace the design on the 1x12 pine board.  If you do not have access to an overhead projector, check with the local library.  They may let you check one out.  (I guess that is one perk to being a teacher!)   I used a measurement of 16 inches long by an 11 inch height from top to bottom for the bottom piece.  The top piece is also 16 inches long by a 3 inch height.  Use the scroll saw to cut the two pieces out.  I appologize for not having any pics of this process, but this was my handy man hubby's department.

Attach the top piece to the 2x2 with 2  3 and 1/2 inch wood screws.  Pre-drill holes to prevent wood from splitting.  Pre-drill the holes to attach the "S" hooks between the top and bottom pieces.

Next, spray paint all pieces the color of your choice.  I used white as you can see.

Next, I used an "S" monogram that I already had from Hobby Lobby to trace onto the bottom piece.

Next, I used black outdoor acrylic paint and a small sponge paint brush to paint the inside of the monogram.  I got the paint at Wal-Mart and it says that it is both UV and weather resistant.

I used the bottom of the paint bottle to trace the circles on each side of the monogram.  I used the edge of the paint brush to go around the outside edge of the bottom wood piece and I used the paint pen and dipped it in the black acrylic paint to write "Welcome" on one side of the sign and "Come Back" on the other side.  Of course it would have been nice if I had a Cameo and some outdoor vinyl, but I don't have either.

We placed our sign at the front entrance to our house with the "Welcome" facing you when you walk up to our front steps and the "Come Back" facing you when you leave.

Thanks so much, Hani for letting me share my Monogram Welcome Sign today!
